Alternative development strategies

Most Western countries have been moving towards a more market dominated and less politically and socially regulated model of capitalism. But some countries, including some in Europe such as Sweden or Denmark, have defended a more socially-oriented model of capitalism with a greater degree of political and institutional regulation.

In other parts of the world, such as Latin America and Asia, countries have pursued other approaches to capitalism and social development. Research will be concerned with the origin and development of various models of economic and social development. More specifically, they will focus on the options for future economic, social and political developments in Europe.
