Financialisation and minimum required profit rates by non-financial firms in developing and emerging economies

Candelaria Fernández Tucci is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Roma Tre University. In her research project “Hurdle rates and Financialisation in Developing and Emerging Economies” she examines the evolving dynamics of corporate investment and financial strategies in the Global South. The project focuses on the key factors shaping non-financial corporations’ target rates of return on investment in contexts marked by macroeconomic vulnerability, financial fragility, and deepening global financial integration. It also investigates the potential impact of rising foreign debt on firms’ investment strategies and profitability requirements.

Methodologically, the study employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative analysis of firm-level data with qualitative insights drawn from interviews with executives of listed non-financial companies in Brazil.
