Felix Syrovatka

Felix Syrovatka conducts research on the regulation of labor and the associated dynamics of conflict and transformation. His interdisciplinary research focuses on labor relations in Germany and Europe at the intersection of political economy, sociology, and law. His research priorities include the development of the conflict partnership—and in particular the employer side—as well as employers’ power resources in Germany, France, and Europe. His other research interests include regulatory theory and the political economy of European integration.

Felix Syrovatka currently leads the research project “Legal Strategies in Collective Labor Law” (JUSKA) at the Institute of Sociology at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. The project examines the dynamics and power relations of the law by analyzing shifts in the meaning of freedom of association between 1990 and 2025.

Felix Syrovatka studied political science and sociology at Philipps University of Marburg, at the IEP in Rennes, and at Freie Universität Berlin. He earned his Ph.D. in European labor policy at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. He then served as the research coordinator for the doctoral program “Justice Through Collective Bargaining” at Freie Universität Berlin and as a research associate at the Institute for Labor and Economics (iaw) at the University of Bremen. In addition, he worked as a lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin and at the Berlin School of Economics and Law.
